• The Boston Public School Energy Division strives to decrease utility consumption in schools through increased monitoring, equipment updates and repairs, and the sharing of energy and water.
  • There are a few steps to reduce utility consumption and costs, and to improve a healthy school environment:

1. Turn off lights when leaving a classroom, and office lights to maximize the use of natural light.

 2. Turn off lights when leaving a classroom, office, gym, assembly hall.

3. Turn off computers and printers.

4. Keep doors and exterior doors closed at all times.

5. Keep windows closed during the heating season especially at night and during weekends.

6. Any cooking of food must be supervised at all times to prevent fire hazards.

7. Building thermostats will be kept at 68 degrees during school hours.

8. Domestic hot water temperatures will be kept at 110 degrees.

9. Only 3-prong extension cords should be used, for safety reasons. The chords should not be extended through doorways.
